2023? Really!? This Early!?

Hello Dear Readers! I wanted to write this blog entry two weeks ago to give everyone a preview of what is to come for me in 2023. Then the OGL 1.1 leak happened. This Open Gaming License crisis has had me busy—really busy. With the constant news updates on this from day to day, it has been hard to keep up. I kind of want to be over it, but as of this writing, WotC has decided to wait until 1/16/23 to roll out something with a non-apology apology!

Gah! I don’t want to talk about the OGL right now. As I said in the last paragraph, I wanted to write about my plans for 2023. So where to begin?

Well, I just published Wretched Folklore. It is up at DrivethruRPG and Big Geek Emporium. Physical copies of the book are available at Lulu.com. Print-on-demand will be available at DrivethruRPG soon. I’m very proud of this work. The Red Room did a great job with the layout and Miguel did a nice job helping with the art. I am very excited. You have 60+ new monsters, some additional rules for your Wretched Country campaigns, including weather and prairie madness, as well as a new character class—the spiritualist. This bestiary can also be used for your Wretched Epoque campaigns as well. I hope you enjoy it.

I’m also happy to add that I will be assisting The Red Room in updating the Wretchedverse core rules in light of the OGL debacle. I’m very excited about this as this will be a great opportunity to work with a publisher that is not afraid to do what they want to do. I’ve already worked through about 68 pages of edits with suggestions to modify the rules to fully divorce the Wretchedverse from the OGL.

Venger Satanis has a Cha’alt game jam. I’m working on an entry for that. It is going to be a location centered around the NPC skeever queen, “Auntie T’eena,” I introduced in my first Cha’alt publication “Into the Great Sunken Library,” last Spring. This location is her post-apocalyptic trailer park called “Turner Town.” It is a location where your players can go to get just about anything these skeevers can get their hands on. To keep with Venger’s style, there will be random tables galore that cover random drug creation, weapon modifications, prostitutes, and much more! It should be ready to go by February 14, 2023. So, stay tuned!

Then, the plan is to update Midnight Prairie as John Torres has issued a second edition of Cowpunchers. Cowpunchers: Reloaded is well over 100 pages and includes some more rules and guns. One rule, in particular, is a mechanic for homesteading. It is an idea that yours truly recommended to Jon for inclusion in Cowpunchers Reloaded. I like what he came up with and Cowpunchers Reloaded is now available. You should totally check it out.

The updated Midnight Prairie will be available print-on-demand once I get it completed. The current rules, by the way, are compatible with the new edition of cowpunchers. You can get them here. For those who have purchased the pdf, I will send you a discount code once the print-on-demand is available. That won’t be for a few months…so be patient! I promise it will come out!

With regard to my video channel, I am going to keep going with it because it is fun and I am such a “small-time” YouTuber, I am not concerned about WotC getting pissed at me. If I get a cease and desist letter, I will cross that bridge then. I’m having too much fun making videos and playing games with people. I love my Lamentations of Elemental Evil Campaign and I have no intention of ending it just because WotC is throwing a hissy fit over the OGL 1.0(a).

With that being said, I am going to shift focus slightly and zero in on indie games to play, record, and review. I am going to run a mini-campaign of Quelong using Advanced Modernity by The Scrying Dutchman. It is not out yet, but I am privy to its development. It looks great and it looks like it is going to be its own standalone game. I am hoping to launch this in March 2023.

I am not sure what I will do after that. I may switch gears and do more with Free League products, such as a campaign in The Forbidden Lands. Or, I may dive head first into Adventurer Conqueror King by Alexander Macris. I just received the advanced PDF of By This Axe and it is awesome. ACKS 2 will be available in May, so I will be diving into that this Summer.

Anyway, as far as this blog is concerned, I am going to try to get back to providing you with something every 2 weeks at the very least. I have some ideas you may find interesting. For example, I want to comment on Dungeon 23. I won’t be doing this per se, but I have some thoughts to share on dungeon crafting. I’m also planning on providing more free content for my Itch.io page. I want to put together a few more OSR-inspired character classes to add to your dark fantasy campaigns.

Well, that’s all I have for now Dear Readers. Thanks for sticking with me! And remember, support your Third-Party Content Creators and Companies!
